Only Heaven Knows
Blue and Black, Sorrow and twilight
Moonlight treads, wary of sunlight
And tomorrow is no promise
Heaven knows only heaven knows
Secrets resound, swaying, growing
Upon us like destiny’s path
And we dream we are all-knowing
Heaven knows only heaven knows
Up in the steel gray dawn of light
Asleep in visions’ dark of night
And in between, we do not know
Heaven knows only heaven knows
What is it we dream we have learned
At the frail hands of each other?
Life and love, longing and laughter
Heaven knows only heaven knows.
This week’s poetry challenge on Jane Dougherty’s blog. Thank you to Jane Dougherty!
There’s longing and fatalism in this. Life, love and the universe, it all turns and we can do nothing about it. I like this poem a lot—thanks for joining in 🙂

Thank you, Jane. It was your fabulous, evocative picture that brought the exact sentiments to mind! So nice to meet you!

A wonderful poem, wistful. I like the repetition, the sounds reminding me of a prayer with an almost shy plea for understanding.

Indeed! You got it completely. And I realize now I could have made this longer, and therefore more poignant, but it warms me so to read that you saw the intention!~ Thank you for saying so!
